FAQ

FAQ: What is Henna Aftercare Balm?

Henna aftercare balm is a balm you can apply to your henna stain to keep it moisturized as well as to protect it from water before showers.

Why is this important?

Keeping the stain moisturized keeps the tattoo from fading too fast because it helps to slow exfoliation. Applying it specifically before showers aids in another way, too: the beeswax in the balm helps to create a protective coating which helps the water to repel off the stain.

What’s the big deal with water?

In my Henna Aftercare Instructions I tell you to avoid water for as long as possible after removing the paste. Water will wash away some of the dye on the top layer of your skin and can therefore prevent the stain from getting as dark as it could be. Using aftercare balm after removing the paste can help prevent the water from having access to your henna stain!

Testing out my aftercare balm

I tested out my balm by applying it to only half of my tattoo, to see if there was a color difference over a few days. I applied henna to my ankle/leg area and used aftercare balm before every shower and before I went into a swimming pool.

Here are the results!

Remember.. henna will stain darker on the feet and hands naturally, so I split my henna tattoo in half lengthwise.

Can you tell which side of the tattoo I applied balm to?Henna aftercare balm stain comparison

I definitely see one half of the tattoo is slightly darker than the other. Have you made your guess which side? Scroll below and see if you’re right!
